It all started with one Chow-girl "Sheba" in the mid 80's and then Porsche and her sister Teak in the late 80's. Sheba lived the longest of all and in 2001 we finally had to say good-bye to her. We spent the next couple of years Chow-less, and after our Sons (who were young boys then) kept coming home with "this & that dogs" we said that was it....Time to start looking for a Chow!

What started off as a Chow puppy search, quickly turned into a realization that quality Chows were getting as scarce as hen's teeth! We started to do alot of research and, at that time, AKC used to post puppy statistics each year for every registered dog breed. In 2004 there were just over 1800 AKC registered Chow pups born, in 2005 there were approx 1600 and in 2006 it was down to a little over 1500. Compared to Labrador Retrievers who were numbered in the mid-100,000's (in one year) and Yorkies who were becoming the second most popular dog at nearly 50,000 (in one year), we realized that this ancient dog breed was unfortunately diminishing. We realize and are saddened by the fact that there are millions of un-wanted dogs in the shelters, but at the same time we know that it is not fair that this old and original breed should be diminished as a result of the irresponsible breeding of thousands of mutated canine breeds; whether contrived or fashionable.

We eventually learned of some local show breeders and decided to obtain nice puppies from them that would eventually grow up to make some beautiful and correct breed standard Chow Chows.

We are located about 65 miles North of Sacramento in California and prefer to find homes locally (within reasonable driving distance). We like to meet the new parents and encourage them to come and visit their puppy as often as they want until the puppy is old enough to go home with them. We feel this really helps in the bonding process too.

If puppies are moving out of state, when they reach 8 weeks old, we will ship puppies on Continental Airlines (usually) and airfare is extra, but only to locations that are a maximum of a 5 hour flight. We really hate for them to be on a plane in the crate for too long - It's probably very traumatic and scary for them. Some parents will fly here to pick up their puppy and drive home and others simply fly back with them in cabin. We also refuse to fly them out of the U.S. or outside the 48 states.

We only have one rule for new parents: that they give their new family member a loving, caring and responsible home.
We do not burden you with a bunch of rules or mandates. We do not require you to spay or neuter. We don't have double pricing standards for registration, sex or color. All of our puppies are registered with AKC shortly after they are born and registration is not limited.....(Some breeders only allow limited registration, or will only grant full registration at an inflated price).

The prices we ask for our puppies depend on the Sire/Dam but are about half the price of similar pedigreed puppies elsewhere. Some litters may be priced at $800 per puppy, while others may be $1200 per puppy (depending on the pedigree). For example: a Sunny/Blondie puppy may be $1200, a Huggy/Cookie puppy may be $1000, etc. These prices are for full registration of excellent pedigreed Chows so if you feel that it doesn't fit your budget, you are welcome to find another breeder. We charge less because we hope people will prefer our quality puppies that meet the breed standard - there are getting to be way too many Chows with undesirable traits such as poor conformation, long thin noses, bad tongue pigment, drop ears, long legs, large eyes, etc. We prefer cash but will accept deposits in the form of a personal check. Deposits to reserve your puppy are $300. Deposits are refundable up until the puppy reaches 5 weeks of age. The balance must be paid in cash prior to or at the time the puppy leaves with you.

We do not sell puppies to brokers, agents, or third parties. We must have correct and physical address, names and info per AKC rules, and anyone who fails to provide valid information will lose their deposit/any monies placed toward the puppy. If we learn that any misrepresentation has taken place, we will notify AKC, Customs and appropriate Law Enforcement of the fraud immediately.
