Our first Chow was Sheba # 1.... She came into our lives in 1985 and stayed for 16 years. Later we added Porsche and her sister Teak. As time passed and our Chows left us, we began to learn just how difficult it was to locate quality Chow puppies.

Classic, correctly bred Chows are getting harder to find. After looking at some of the available Chow puppies with drop ears, wrong conformation, "Samoyed-like faces" etc, we decided to become interested in breeding for classic, correct Chows. We researched many breeders and decided on a few lines that were correct in conformation as well as being impressively pedigreed with strong Show backgrounds. In an effort to better the gene pool, we offer quality Chow puppies at half the cost for comparable pedigrees elsewhere.

Chows are an ancient and original breed, and they deserve to be here more than many other so called "breeds" of dogs. Most breeds are contrived and have been mixed and bred with various types to obtain certain looks....(A mutation of the Canis/Lupus gene). Some "breeds" have populations that are spinning out of control as they are becoming fashionable to own. Because of these indiscriminate practices, new laws and regulations chastising breeders are being mandated, making it very difficult to maintain the ancient and original arctic breeds who's numbers are diminishing.

Our personal goal is this: To make sure puppies are matched with the best homes. Compatability is the most important factor. We like to learn a little bit about the people who are inquiring about puppies so as to match them up with each other to enjoy their lives together. Our own dogs are very much loved and have a relaxed and free lifestyle - and that's what we hope to find for their puppies.

Our personal policies in caring for them:
  1. ) Plenty of freedom (no kennels), exercise, and great diets.
Years ago, before corn was genetically engineered, it was a large staple in dry dog food and it had no adverse effects.... until now. Genetically engineered and hybridized corn creates allergies and wet eyes (not to be confused with Entropion) in many Chows (and people also!) This means they are ingesting insecticides that are present in the corn seed itself. We try to avoid corn and keep the kibbles to a minimum. We cook for them a combination of macaroni, spaghetti or rice, add peas & carrots, hamburger, chicken or eggs and add cheese or yogurt and vitamins. We add this to some kibbles and/or canned (Pedigree).

  1. ) We do not give our dogs oral insecticides. Occasional worming meds are fine during the season but we do not agree that saturating their body with monthly bug killer in order to repel occasional fleas or mosquitoes is a healthy choice. We apply topical repellants that are easily rinsed off and only use as needed.

  1. ) Moms who are expecting do not eat dog food until their puppies are born. They are on a specially balanced quality diet. Puppies are born inside the house with our supervision and assistance and remain here until it's time to go to their new homes. We spend alot of time with them; getting them used to new things, alot of handling, new people, other dogs, crate training and house training.

  1. ) It's very important to keep in mind that even though they are cute and cuddly, they should NEVER be spoiled or treated like babies. They are more mature mentally than most people think and if they are babied, they will begin to assume they are dominant and will display alpha behavior over other members of the household. They are closely related to the wolf and very prone to pack behavior, so it's important to maintain their place in the order.

We are located in Oroville, CA. We will ship puppies only to the western half of the U.S. at the going rate for airfare. Rates for puppies depend upon the pedigree and range from $800. to $1,100. A $300. deposit is necessary to hold a puppy for you. Deposits are refundable in full up until the puppy is 5 weeks of age, after that they are not refundable. All litters are AKC Registered and are non-limited in any way. We encourage local new parents to visit their puppy here as often as possible up until they take them to their new home.
